Playa Frontón.
Towering cliffs, a reef offshore and no road in. How to reach Frontón by boat or on foot from Las Galeras, and what to bring.
Cliffs, reef and nobody else.
Playa Frontón is a narrow strip of sand at the foot of huge limestone cliffs, east of Las Galeras, with forest behind and a reef just offshore. There are no roads to it and no hotels, which is exactly why people love it.
It is one of the area’s best-known snorkeling spots, and the cliffs are among the most popular rock-climbing areas in the Dominican Republic.

By boat or on foot.
By boat (the easy way)
Boats leave from the town beach in Las Galeras, and the ride is short. Many trips combine Frontón with Playa Madama and a snorkeling stop.
Before you go, agree on: the price, how long you will stay, what’s included (snorkel gear, drinks) and, above all, your pickup time. Phone signal at the beach is unreliable.
On foot
A coastal trail of around 5 km leads to Frontón from the La Hondonada area of Las Galeras. It passes the Boca del Diablo blowhole before entering the forest. The trail is mostly flat but rocky in places and partly crosses private land. Wear proper shoes, start early, carry plenty of water and consider going with a local guide.
What to bring.
- Everything you need for the day: water, food and snacks. Services at the beach are minimal or none.
- Snorkel gear if your boat doesn’t supply it.
- Sun protection and insect repellent.
- A dry bag for your phone and cash.
- Your trash: take it back with you.
