Samaná’s tourism sector will meet on Thursday, October 8, 2026, to discuss how cruise tourism could support local businesses, employment and longer visitor stays across the province.

The eleventh Annual Meeting for Tourism Development is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the Santa Bárbara room at Puerto Bahía. The Samaná Tourism Cluster (CTS) and the Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Samaná (AHETSA) are organizing the gathering under the theme “Samaná, Navigating Toward a New Era.”

According to reports in El Día and Testigo, discussions will cover infrastructure, hotels, commerce, workforce training and environmental protection. National and international specialists are expected to share experience from the cruise industry.

One question on the agenda is how a short cruise visit might encourage a return trip with an overnight stay. For Las Galeras, that makes the forum worth following: the town’s accommodation providers, guides and other visitor businesses operate within the same regional tourism economy.

The announcement concerns a planning forum; it does not establish a new cruise stop, transport service or investment project in Las Galeras. Any concrete proposals affecting the town will need to be assessed after the meeting.

Local businesses interested in attending should confirm registration and access arrangements with the organizers before traveling to Puerto Bahía.
